New to Clarksville, TN? 5 Places Every New Resident Should Visit

So you just moved to Clarksville, Tennessee.

The boxes are everywhere. You’ve figured out which grocery store is closest to the house. Your GPS is finally starting to recognize your commute.

And you’ve probably already learned that saying, “I’ll just run down Wilma Rudolph real quick” can occasionally be famous last words.

Welcome to Clarksville.

Whether you moved here because of Fort Campbell, work, family, school, or simply because Middle Tennessee felt like the right place to call home, there’s a big difference between living somewhere and actually getting to know it.

Clarksville has grown tremendously, but there’s still plenty here that gives the city its own personality—from the Cumberland River and historic downtown to parks, trails, caves, museums and local events.

So once you’ve unpacked enough boxes to justify taking a break, here are five places I’d recommend checking out as you start getting to know your new hometown.

1. Historic Downtown Clarksville & Downtown Commons

If you’re new to Clarksville, downtown is a great place to start.

Historic Downtown Clarksville gives you a completely different experience from the busier commercial areas you may encounter when you first move here.

You’ll find historic buildings, restaurants, local businesses, public art and community events throughout the downtown area.

And right in the middle of it is Downtown Commons, an outdoor gathering space that hosts events and activities throughout the year.

One of the best ways to experience downtown isn’t necessarily to have a detailed itinerary.

Park the car.

Walk around.

Grab something to eat.

Check out the murals.

See what’s happening at Downtown Commons.

And start learning the streets.

If your first impression of Clarksville has mostly consisted of moving trucks, errands and traffic, downtown is a good reminder that there’s another side of the city waiting to be explored.

Local tip: Check the community event calendar before heading downtown. Depending on the time of year, you may stumble into live music, festivals, markets or other local events.

2. Liberty Park & Clarksville Marina

If you want to understand why the Cumberland River is such an important part of Clarksville, spend some time at Liberty Park and the Clarksville Marina.

This is one of those places that works whether you want to actually do something or simply get out of the house for a while.

Liberty Park includes walking areas, playground space, sports fields, fishing opportunities and access to the river and marina.

It’s also home to the Wilma Rudolph Event Center.

But you don’t necessarily need an event or activity planned.

Sometimes you just need to grab a coffee, take a walk and enjoy being outside.

If you’ve relocated with children, it’s also worth putting on your list while you’re learning which parks and outdoor spaces your family enjoys.

And if you’re a boater or enjoy fishing, the marina and Cumberland River access make this one particularly worth knowing.

3. Dunbar Cave State Park

This one surprises some people who relocate here.

Yes, Clarksville has an actual cave.

Dunbar Cave State Park is one of the area’s most distinctive outdoor and historical attractions.

The park surrounds Dunbar Cave and offers hiking trails, wildlife viewing and opportunities to learn

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars – An Amazing Realtor Who Truly Cares About Her Clients! Where do we even begin? We truly cannot say enough wonderful things about Sue Whitsell and everything she has done for our family throughout our home-buying journey! Buying a home is one of the biggest financial and emotional decisions a family can make, especially when you’re searching for a place to plant your roots and build a lifetime of memories. From the very beginning, Sue made it clear that she wasn’t just interested in selling us a house. She genuinely wanted to help us find a HOME that was right for our family, our future, and our financial well-being. One of the things we appreciated most about Sue was her honesty, patience, and willingness to help us look at the bigger picture. She took the time to help us weigh our options, whether that meant comparing the overall price of a home to what our actual monthly mortgage payment would look like, considering square footage versus how much space we realistically needed, or discussing different layouts, features, and amenities that would make a house truly functional for our family. She helped us understand that sometimes the biggest or most expensive house isn’t necessarily the best home for your needs. What really sets Sue apart is that she LISTENS. She never made us feel rushed, pressured, or like our questions were an inconvenience. She took the time to understand what we were looking for, what mattered most to us, and what we wanted our future to look like. Even when we had questions, concerns, or found ourselves weighing different possibilities, she remained incredibly patient, understanding, and supportive. Sue wasn’t afraid to help us look at things from a different perspective, and that meant so much to us. She helped us think beyond just how beautiful a house might be and consider whether it would truly be the right fit for our lifestyle, our budget, and our long-term happiness. That kind of guidance is something you simply cannot put a price on. After years of military service and working toward the dream of owning our forever home, reaching this milestone means more to our family than words can explain. Having someone like Sue alongside us throughout this process made the experience that much more special. Sue, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you for your patience, your honesty, your guidance, and most importantly, for treating our family like people rather than just another sale. You helped us make one of the biggest decisions of our lives with confidence, and we will always be grateful for that. To anyone looking to buy or sell a home, we wholeheartedly recommend Sue Whitsell. If you want a realtor who will genuinely listen, look out for your best interests, and help you find not just a house but a place to call home, Sue is the person you want by your side. Thank you, Sue, for helping us turn our dream of homeownership into a reality and for being part of such an important chapter in our family’s story! ❤️🏡

Donald knocked it out of the park from start to finish! He helped my family to purchase a house in a matter of WEEKS! Everything me and my husband was looking for in a house he made sure all our boxes were checked. We found the perfect house and he quickly setup a viewing the next day. He is very knowledgeable and knows the market which makes him good at what he does. He helped us put in an offer right away any he kept in touch with us all week to see if there was any updates on or questions we had about our offer and the next steps we needed to take. He did such an amazing job that the home we purchased already has equity. He did such an amazing job that we will be using him to sell our old home.
